MitID chip

MitID chip is for you who need to approve and log on with MitID many times every day, eg in connection with your work.

  • MitID chip needs to be connected via USB or contactless (where you place it on top of your smartphone or tablet)
  • MitID chip has a battery, which can be recharged by connecting MitID chip with a USB-cable to a computer or USB-charger.

After ordering your MitID chip

After ordering, you can choose to have your MitID chip sent to you by mail. Delivery time is up to 15 days. You can also choose to pick up your MitID chip at Citizen Service. Be aware that some Citizen service centres requires you to book an appointment before you show up. You must bring ID with your picture.

When you log on or approve with your MitID chip (eg on or, you must do the following:

  1. Enter your user ID. Enter your password if prompted.
  2. Connect your MitID chip to your computer, tablet or smartphone and authenticate.

You authenticate in one of the following ways, depending on the device you are sitting with:

  • USB cable:
    Connect the MitID chip to your computer's USB port with the supplied cord. Press the button on your MitID chip.
  • Bluetooth:
    Connect (pair) your MitID chip to your computer, tablet or smartphone. Press the button on your MitID chip. For IOS please use contactless, since bluetooth does not work with the chip.
  • Contactless:
    MitID chip has a built-in NFC chip similar to contactless payment cards. Hold your MitID chip close to your device to authenticate. It requires that your computer, tablet or smartphone also has a built-in NFC chip.
    You do not have to press the button on your MitID chip to authenticate with the contactless function. If you press the button, you will shut down the NFC functionality. Place the chip close to the unit on the unit's backside. If the unit has a cover, it is recommended that the cover is temporarily removed, as it can prevent the connection.

Note: When you connect your MitID chip to your device, a message will appear from your operating system or browser asking for permission to authenticate with the MitID chip. You must give permission if you want to use the MitID chip.
